Spin-offs

With its research, CWI strives for social and economic impact and makes the results of scientific research available to society. Generating spin-off companies is one of our most effective ways to turn fundamental knowledge into practical applications for society while creating quality employment opportunities.

Valorisation

Since 2012, CWI has had a valorisation manager and a valorisation team. The team supports the development of public-private partnerships with a wide range of companies and public institutions. Many of the partnerships run over a long period of time, enabling measurable social and business impact. We also collaborate with institutions, such as TNO, to bring knowledge from lower Technology Readiness Levels (fundamental research) to higher ones (technical knowledge and software applications). For each of the focus areas, we have set up partnerships in the innovation chain to promote this process from fundamental knowledge to concrete products and services in the market.

Spin-offs

We are proud of our growing portfolio of successful spin-off companies, some of which have a global impact. Our relationships with these companies take various forms. Although we often have a financial stake in the beginning, some companies become important partners in high-profile mergers and buyouts. We maintain longer-term research relationships with other spin-offs. A number of them operate independently and enjoy working with us in a variety of ways as they grow.
