The Jan Hemelrijk Award is a prize for the best master’s thesis in statistics or operations research. For her master thesis research on “Safe tests for 2×2 contingency tables and the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test” at the CWI & Leiden University. She was supervised by Prof. P.D. Grünwald.   In her thesis, she developed implementations of safe statistics: a new framework for collecting evidence for hypotheses, particularly suitable for online and sequential learning. She developed safe tests for two classical frequentist hypothesis tests: the2x2 contingency table test and its stratified equivalent, the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test.   More information
