Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) offers attractive working conditions. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen").
In addition to the salary, employees receive an annual vacation pay (8% of the gross salary, almost one month of salary) and a year-end bonus (8.33% of the gross salary, basically amounting to an extra month of salary).
Employees who live more than 10 kilometers from CWI are entitled to a travel expenses reimbursement. The amount of the compensation depends on the distance.
CWI offers flexible scheduling. This helps you to combine work and personal life.
CWI offers a pension scheme via ABP. ABP is the largest pension fund in the Netherlands and the second largest of the world.
Employees with a full-time contract are entitled to 42.25 days of holiday leave per year. There is the possibility to exchange a maximum of 15 days of holiday leave for more salary.
Housing and moving
For most expat PhD-students, there are student apartments available near the CWI building. With regards to the housing of other expat employees, CWI offers help and advise.
CWI pays the expenses of a residence permit (if applicable) before the commencement of the contract. This does not apply to anyone who makes use of a special expat tax ruling (30%).
CWI pays -up to a certain maximum- for the travel expenses to the Netherlands, and for those with a contract of two years or more, a single 'relocation subsidy' of € 2,042 net on commencement of the contract, after the probationary period.
Personal development and courses
CWI invests in the personal development of its employees. Especially for PhD-students, there are many opportunities to follow courses, through joining classes on their subject and training sessions on scientific writing, presentation skills etc.
CWI also has a lively activity committee, run by PhD students. They organize activities all year round, like gaming nights, sport events, a camping trip etc. Postdocs and trainees are equally welcome to join these activities.
Working conditions (health and safety of employees) are an important issue. We put effort in the prevention of RSI and stress, there is a company doctor, you can get a chair massage, join mindfulness classes etc.
CWI offers a health insurance through IAK. The insurance costs are approximately €90 per person, per month. Cheaper options are available though. Family members can also make use of this insurance.
