Project to reduce waiting times in healthcare moves into practice

A mathematical model that reduces waiting times in elderly care by intelligently matching supply and demand will soon be tested in practice in the Amsterdam region.

The DOLCE VITA project, which started in 2019, has delivered promising results. A recent event at CWI brought together care organizations and health insurers, where the mathematical model and the results of simulations using data from Dutch healthcare institutions were presented.
Now, the time has come to test the models and methods developed within DOLCE VITA in practice. To do so, researchers from CWI and Amsterdam UMC will closely collaborate with about ten care providers in the Amsterdam region. The new project is called Data-driven optimization of health supply chains in the acute elderly care and is funded by TKI (Top Knowledge Institute) Dinalog.

Community of Practice

At the same time, a so-called Community of Practice is being established, consisting of care providers, insurers, scientists, and other stakeholders. The aim is to exchange practical knowledge and scientific insights that improve patient flow in care chains and reduce waiting times. The partners will focus not only on elderly care, but also on other healthcare sectors, including mental health care, youth care, and disability care.
