Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), the national research center for mathematics and computer science in The Netherlands and IDEAS NCBR, the Polish centre of innovation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Economy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). With this MoU the institutes agree to make joint effort to promote scientific research and talent development, specifically in the field of computer science.
The research partners aim to conduct world-class fundamental and applied research together. By developing an academic and research collaboration, CWI and IDEAS strive to undertake challenging research topics with significant societal, economic, and industrial impact.
Research topics
The joint laboratory will focus on research areas including AI and digital economy, with special emphasis on blockchain, smart contracts and decentralized finance, algorithmic game theory, computational social science, social network analysis, explainable AI, human-machine interaction, and energy transition.

Goals
CWI and IDEAS will organize the first joint research activities in 2023. Furthermore, the partners agreed to exchange researchers, students and other staff members. The partners also plan to move forward together in the development of joint projects to be presented for funding by the European Commission or other funding bodies.
