This spring, CWI launched a call for proposals for new Research Semester Programmes (RSP). The development of RSP’s is part of CWI’s strategy 2022-2027, contributing to CWI’s goal to be a national meeting place for collaboration in the area of mathematics and computer science research. The research semester programmes allow CWI to take up its leadership role, team up with its communities to work together on scientific challenges with societal impact, create research consortia, develop grant proposals and tailored valorization approaches.
From the submitted proposals, 5 were selected
- PhaseCAP: Phase Transitions in Combinatorics, Algorithms, Probability:
Ferenc Bencs (CWI), Jop Briët (CWI), Serte Donderwinkel (RUG), Carla Groenland (TUD), Ross Kang (UvA), Noela Müller (TU/e), Guus Regts (UvA). - Misinformation detection and countering in the era of LLMs. Truth Is in the Eyes of the Machines:
Tommaso Caselli (RUG), Davide Ceolin (CWI). - Synergies in numerical linear algebra and machine learning:
Jemima Tabeart (TU/e), Victorita Dolean (TU/e), Alexander Heinlein (TUD), Tristan van Leeuwen (CWI), Benjamin Sanderse (CWI). - Quantum Algorithms and Quantum Error Correction:

Ton de Kok, director of CWI, looks forward to the development of the new programmes: "By organizing these events, we will strengthen our cooperation with the scientists at
the Dutch universities, and international colleagues that will be involved."
Other RSP’s that were already planned, can be found here. The planning for the new RSP’s will be published on short notice.
In September, a workshop will take place in which the involved researchers will be supported in further developing and shaping their RSP.
