Our society depends on an efficient and flexible organization of traffic and transport, commerce, and public services. Fundamental research yields principles and methods that can be broadly applied to these logistic processes. CWI will continue to contribute frontier research results that address the bottlenecks in our society: from train scheduling to traffic flows, and from patient waiting lists to communications networks.

Challenge: the perfect class scheduling machine
Class scheduling in schools is a brain-twister. The complexity and size of the problem demand a coordinated research program. The results touch on areas far outside the classroom. This work will contribute to better job scheduling, train timetables and hospital planning systems. CWI will allocate future growth to tackle this problem.
