Harry Buhrman and Yfke Dulek give ‘Paradiso lecture’ on artificial intelligence and quantum computers

On 18 June, Harry Buhrman and Yfke Dulek will give a ‘Paradiso lecture’. These lectures, which take place in music venue and cultural centre Paradiso in Amsterdam, are intended for a broad audience. Harry Buhrman is leader of the Algorithms and Complexity group, director of QuSoft and professor at the University of Amsterdam. Yfke Dulek is a PhD student in the A&C research group. Their lecture will focus on artificial intelligence and quantum computers. Buhrman and Dulek will address the question: will computers take over in the future?

On 18 June 2017, Harry Buhrman and Yfke Dulek will give a ‘Paradiso lecture’. These lectures, which take place in music venue and cultural centre Paradiso in Amsterdam, are intended for a broad audience. Harry Buhrman is leader of the Algorithms and Complexity group, director of QuSoft and professor at the University of Amsterdam. Yfke Dulek is a PhD student in the A&C research group. Their lecture will focus on artificial intelligence and quantum computers. Buhrman and Dulek will address the question: will computers take over in the future?

Quantum computers use qubits, which in contrast to the conventional bits that are either 0 or 1, can simultaneously be 0 and 1. This fundamental difference opens the door to unprecedented calculations. The development of the quantum computer, together with the latest developments in artificial intelligence, will launch humanity into a new era. The quantum revolution will have a major impact on society.

Paradiso lectures 2017
From the Big Bang to the elementary building blocks of the universe, from complex molecules to first life, from our ape ancestor to humans to a ‘homo technologicus’, and ultimately to artificial intelligence. The 2017 Paradiso lecture series deals with the creation of life in our universe and the ‘evolution of everything’.
