Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has officially joined research network LIAMA. The Sino-European Laboratory in Computer Science, Automation and Applied Mathematics (LIAMA) is a research lab consisting of European and Chinese research institutes in the field of mathematics and computer science. LIAMA conducts research, training and transfer projects in these fields. CWI will join the lab as one of the founding members.
CWI will join two projects within LIAMA. Ronald Cramer, leader of CWI’s cryptology group, will join the CRYPT project, aimed at studying secret-key and public-key cryptanalysis. Frank de Boer and Farhad Arbab of CWI’s Formal Methods group join the TEMPO project, which focuses on the development of safer and more reliable embedded systems.

LIAMA was founded in 1997 by French research institute Inria and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). In 2008 the lab was opened for other European research institutes. Also in 2008, LIAMA became a National Centre for International Research of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. It currently consists of 11 Chinese and 9 European research institutes.
