IIP Vital ICT published Strategic Research Agenda

Publication date: 28-11-2011

The Dutch ICT Innovation Platform (IIP) ‘Vital ICT’ published its Strategic Research Agenda in November 2011, including plans for future knowledge building in this area. Chair of the IIP Vital ICT – Rob van der Mei from the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam – presented the first copy to Nicole Kroon, director of ICT and Legislation within the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I) in the Netherlands. This happened during the ICTDelta Conference on 16 November 2011 in The Hague.

IIP Vital ICT is a platform that brings companies and research organizations together for collaborative research to improve the quality of ICT systems in the Netherlands. Dutch society increasingly depends on ICT systems. Failures in ICT services form an increasing risk, with - in extreme cases – even disastrous consequences for society. The need for reliable, 'vital' ICT grows. Reliable ICT is also required for the development and introduction of new applications. In practice, the existing knowledge is implemented in a limited way, and often too late; knowledge and experience are highly fragmented. IIP Vital ICT facilitates intensive knowledge exchange, which is important to achieve a vital Dutch ICT infrastructure.

Director of the Vital ICT platform is Bart Gijsen (TNO). Besides Gijsen and Van der Mei, the Steering Committee consists of Maurits de Graaf (Thales), Hans van den Berg (TNO), Boudewijn Haverkort (3TU, ESI) and Huub Meertens (Eurocontrol). Participating organizations include Alliander, the Dutch tax authorities, DNB, IBM Nederland, the Ministry of Defense, Philips Research Labs and Rabobank. CWI plays a central role in the ICT community in the area of vital ICT in the Netherlands.
