Large STW grant for CWI research on discharges

In November, Ute Ebert (CWI) received a large STW grant for three research projects on discharges. These projects are about X-rays and gamma radiation from lightning, air purification with discharges for highway tunnels and hospitals, and environmentally friendly high voltage switches for power plants.

In November, Ute Ebert (CWI) received a large STW grant for three research projects on discharges. These projects are about X-rays and gamma radiation from lightning, air purification with discharges for highway tunnels and hospitals, and environmentally friendly high voltage switches for power plants. Ebert is involved in three of the seven projects within the STW program ‘Building on Transient Plasmas’. At CWI, three PhD students in her research group will work on the theory. Ebert will also be involved in the experiments of four PhD students at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where she is part-time professor. The grant – in total 2.6 million euros for the three projects, of which 600,000 euros for Ebert - is intended for both research and collaboration with industry.
