EIT ICT Labs' mission is to turn Europe into a global leader in ICT Innovation.  One means to this end is to speed up ICT innovation by bringing people together from different countries, disciplines and organizations.  The research action lines have been set up to develop innovation catalysts in three identified areas: Computing in the cloud, Internet Technologies and Architectures and ICT-mediated Human Activity.

The research action line ICT-mediated human activity will explore how electronic media transform human activity in profound ways. A deeper understanding of this transformation is indispensable when exploring and establishing new practices within an information society. ICT enables novel extensions of human senses and interaction capabilities while at the same time supporting existing fundamental human communication and information needs. New modes of interaction can be enabled, for example, through multimodal and embodied interaction, augmented and mixed reality, interaction with mirror worlds, and through intelligent information and media access. Underlying human communication needs include, for example, directed user communication, information access, broadcasting and publishing, and social bonding.
