Adlib is a software tool for making web thesauruses available in collections management. It uses Semantic Web technologies to implement an auto-completion function for describing images on works of art. That way, documentalists can use local as well as online thesauruses to build on information that is already available, which makes their work easier and more efficient.
The Adlib software has been developed by the Information Access (IA) research group in cooperation with the Dutch Rijksmuseum. It is now part of Adlib Museum, a web-based Collections Management System sold by Axiell ALM Netherlands. The Adlib Museum software is used by the majority of the Dutch museums. Furthermore, the concepts of Adlib have been implemented in several other applications.
