The title of the lecture is
The Math of the Deal
About the lecture
Negotiation is often regarded as an art, but it is also a science, with surprisingly beautiful underlying mathematical structure. Fundamental concepts (e.g. from decision and search theory) emerge naturally when we reason rigorously about the makings of a deal – i.e.: what bids to make, which questions to ask, what information to reveal, and when to accept.
In his inaugural lecture, Professor Baarslag will provide the intuition behind some of the solution concepts, including the College Problem, Pandora’s Rule, and optimal stopping. He will also present the wider implications for Cooperative AI, arguing that these mathematical models provide an essential link in enabling AI to make understandable decisions with each other and on our behalf.
