VENI grant for Harry van Zanten

Harry van Zanten received a VENI grant for young talented researchers. This was announced by NWO on July 13, 2004. Van Zanten is researcher at the Vrije Universiteit and seconded at CWI's Stochastics group, PNA3. He will study statistical data by means of vibrating strings. Measurements coming from telecom networks, for instance, comprise signals of various frequencies. Van Zanten will associate them with vibrations of strings at the same range of frequencies. The mathematical theory of vibrating strings will be used to study models for telecom networks.
