Vanessa Evers appointed Chief Science Advisor at OCW

CWI Director Vanessa Evers has been appointed Chief Science Advisor (CSA) at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). In this new position, a top scientist with an excellent reputation will provide strategic advice to ministers and senior civil servants on OCW policy, based on scientific knowledge.

Focus on AI and digital technologies

The CSA is appointed for one year. The focus for this first CSA will be on AI and related digital technologies. This ties in well with the scientific knowledge of Vanessa Evers, as a leading researcher in the field of interaction with intelligent systems. Her research covers AI, robotics and autonomous systems, with a strong emphasis on how these innovations can improve people's lives.

Vanessa Evers is delighted with her appointment: "In the Netherlands, we have in-depth knowledge of artificial intelligence and the impact of AI on our society from many disciplines. It is remarkable that this allows us to approach the transformation of education, culture and media in such a multidisciplinary way. Even though our backgrounds differ, it is precisely this diversity that enables us to work together so well. I am delighted that we, as the Dutch academic community, together with our partners from the business community and society, can contribute our knowledge to strengthen the policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. I am extremely honoured to be able to play a role as Chief Science Advisor in building a new bridge between policy, science and society."

Vanessa Evers will combine her position as director of CWI and professor at the University of Twente with her appointment as CSA.
