Prize winners Icy Contest

The top of the iceberg - that was theme of the Science Day 2007. At CWI, several contests were held: two workshops 'mathematical ice carving' and a quiz on the melting of an ice block. The answers of this 'Icy Contest' quiz: The weight of the block was 21.5 kg at 12.00h and 17.0 kg at 17.30h. So 4.5 kg melted in 5.5h.

At CWI, several contests were held: two workshops 'mathematical ice carving' and a quiz on the melting of an ice block. The answers of this 'Icy Contest' quiz: The weight of the block was 21.5 kg at 12.00h and 17.0 kg at 17.30h. So 4.5 kg melted in 5.5h.

And the winners of the Icy Contest are...
Mats Jelle Valk from Amstelveen (11 years), with answers 22.5 kg and 18.5 kg (4.0 kg melted). He wins the first prize: ten times skating at the Jaap Edenbaan - with thanks to our sponsor, the Jaap Edenbaan.
Peter Tax from Amsterdam (45 years) with answers 23.2 kg and 18.0 kg (5.2 kg melted). He wins the second prize, the WNF game.
