Recently, Peter A.N. Bosman, senior researcher in the CWI Life Sciences and Health (LSH) group, has been appointed part-time professor Evolutionary Algorithms in the department of Software Technology of the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) of Delft University of Technology.

Ever since his M.Sc. thesis, Bosman's main fundamental research focus has been on the design of efficiently scalable evolutionary algorithms for single- and multi-objective optimization, and (combinations with) machine learning. Bosman has become a well-known researcher in his field, serving as General Chair of the premier conference on evolutionary algorithms, the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO), and being voted onto the business committee of SIGEVO, the ACM Special Interest Group on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation.

Bosman's main applied research focus is on the LSH domain, aiming to use his fundamental expertise to better support real-world clinical decision making, and thereby, ultimately, to improve patient care. In his most recent projects he focuses on topics in radiation oncology, including automated treatment planning, deformable image registration and 3D dose reconstruction, in close collaboration with researchers and medical experts from (academic) hospitals, in particular the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam.

At Delft University of Technology, Bosman will continue to deepen and broaden his fundamental research on evolutionary algorithms within the Algorithmics group of the department of Software Technology with potential applications in- and outside of the LSH domain. Bosman will furthermore contribute to the M.Sc. education programme.
