CWI’s DIS Group Showcases Human-Computer Interaction Research at CHI 2026

The Distributed and Interactive Systems (DIS) group at CWI has multiple contributions at the ACM CHI 2026 conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2026) in Barcelona. The conference, recognized as the premier international forum for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), takes place from 13 to 17 April in Barcelona, Spain. With a full paper, two posters, and three specialized meetups, the group actively contributes to the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research.

CHI is the flagship conference of ACM SIGCHI, the premier international society for professionals, academics and students who are interested in technology and human-computer interaction. The DIS group’s contributions this year span a wide range of interactive technologies, including one full paper, two posters, three meetups, and participation in the Student Mentoring Program.

Strengthening the Dutch HCI Community

Beyond presenting research, DIS continues to play a pivotal leadership role within CHI Nederland (CHI NL), the organization dedicated to connecting and supporting the HCI community in the Netherlands. DIS will continue its involvement from recent years:

  • Abdallah El Ali (CWI Research Scientist) continues his tenure as Chair of CHI NL, a position he has held since 2024. For CHI 2026, he is also serving as the conference Workshops Co-chair.
  • Pablo Cesar (DIS Group Leader) maintains his strategic role within LobbyCHI, focusing on HCI research advocacy in the Netherlands. At this year's conference, he serves as the Technical Program Co-Chair.

CHI NL remains highly active following the success of the HCI track at ICT.OPEN 2025, the annual CHI NL 2025 Community Event (10 April 2025 in Enschede) and the CHIWORK 2025 symposium hosted at CWI. During the conference in Barcelona, CHI NL will contribute to CHI 2026 and will co-organize the Dutch CHI Social Event on 16 April, fostering networking among Dutch researchers and international peers.
