The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released a new Recommendation for online forms called XForms 1.0. Surfers can use these forms to submit information on websites. CWI-researcher Steven Pemberton presided the W3C Working Group that developed the worldwide standard.
The Recommendation, released on October 14, 2003, increases the potential of web forms and makes them easier to use. An important advantage of XForms with respect to the HTML forms currently used, is the separation of presentation and data. This enables the use of similar forms on different platforms like mobile phones, PDAs or desktop computers. Experts think XForms will have great potential in applications like e-commerce.
