ACM Multimedia Conference 2025: significant contributions of CWI’s DIS group

The Distributed and Interactive Systems (DIS) group from CWI delivered significant contributions to the ACM Multimedia Conference (ACM MM 2025). This worldwide premier event for scientific achievements in the multimedia field took place in Dublin from 27 to 31 October. The group's efforts resulted in two dataset papers, two workshop papers, two co-organized workshops, and a keynote talk.

Beyond its scientific contribution, DIS group continues to play an active role in the ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (ACM SIGMM). ACM SIGMM provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners in all aspects of multimedia computing, communication, storage, and applications. Silvia Rossi has been recently elected as SIGMM Director of Conference, which also makes her Steering Committee chair of ACM Multimedia. Pablo Cesar is also part of the SIGMM executive committee as Editor in Chief of the SIGMM Records, the quarterly magazine.

The group also co-organised the first ACM SIGMM European Chapter kick-off meeting, led by Xavier Alameda-Pineda, Elisa Ricci, and Pablo Cesar. The new chapter aims to strengthen the European multimedia community, promote collaboration between academia and industry, and support new initiatives and thematic events across Europe. During this event, Silvia Rossi delivered a keynote talk titled “From Individual Immersion to Shared Experiences in Social XR”, highlighting the shift from single-user to shared immersive environments and presenting her research on behavioural analysis, and methods for evaluating multi-user XR systems.
