You bet! E-values and the future of statistics

This research semester programme aims at deepening theoretical understanding about E-values. The programme strives to broaden interdisciplinary adoption and collaboration by building a community of researchers around this novel concept. You bet! E-values and the future of statistics research semester programme will be organized in Spring 2028.

You Bet! E-values and the future of statistics

The e-value is rapidly reshaping the landscape of statistical hypothesis testing and inference. Originally introduced to address limitations in classical statistical methods, e-values have sparked breakthroughs in sequential testing, multiple testing, and even vanilla single-hypothesis testing. As foundational work solidifies, a new, flexible, and rigorous theory of statistical evidence is emerging—one that promises to transcend the binary reject-or-not paradigm of classical hypothesis tests. This research semester programme aims at deepening theoretical understanding, broadening interdisciplinary adoption, and collaboration, and building a community of researchers around this novel concept, with the Netherlands already playing a leading role in the global development of this field.

The programme will consist of:

  • a series of workshops
  • symposium
  • spring/autumn school, boot camp, or masterclass
  • sabbatical visitor(s) as part of the CWI visiting programmea series of workshops

This Research Semester Programme is organized by:

Peter Grünwald (CWI), Wouter Koolen (CWI), Jelle Goeman (UL), Nick Koning (EUR), Rianne de Heide (UT).
