Optimization problems are everywhere — from designing the optimal material composition for solar cells, to determining the right radiation dose in cancer treatment, to planning the most efficient train schedules.
However, while general optimization algorithms can usually provide working solutions, in practice the approach is usually refined for the specific problem at hand. This adaptation is a tedious and costly process, which begs the question: Can we systematize algorithm tailoring? Or even make some parts automatic?
This event brings together optimization researchers and application experts (both industrial and scientific) to discuss bespoke optimization approaches. Are you interested in how leading experts would optimize your problem? Or are you a scientist, looking to stress-test your algorithms? Join us in Amsterdam at our Applications Day, and help our Research Semester Programme collect data on tailoring.
Costs and registration
The Tailored Optimization Applications Day (15 January 2026) has been cancelled due to insufficient registrations. Participants who had already purchased a ticket will be contacted individually.
The invite-only Kick-off Meeting (14–16 January) will take place as scheduled.
