AI in learning: can machine learning help human learning?

Education is named as one of the first domains with the potential to be ‘disrupted’ by generative AI.

Generative AI was ‘the’ hype of 2023, and it is here to stay. Education is named as one of the first domains with the potential to be ‘disrupted’ by a new technology, promising to support learners and teachers alike, inside and outside of school systems. But how does AI work? And what is teaching and learning? The session explores the history of machine-supported learning, outlines what modern machine-learning techniques can and can’t do, and illustrates Hermans' vision for the future of learning and of the world.
