We are pleased to announce that Gabriele Fici will visit CWI, Amsterdam to give a 2-week hybrid course on Combinatorics on Words, from 15 to 25 April 2024.
Organisation: The course will be from Mondays to Thursdays, 9:30-12:30 (24 hours in total), between 15 and 25 April 2024.
Programme: The first week is devoted to a general introduction to Combinatorics on Words and the study of basic notions (factors, borders, periods, powers, palindromes, etc.), and different mechanisms for generating and classifying infinite words (morphisms, Toeplitz words, avoidance of patterns, critical exponent, etc.).
The second week will be devoted to the study of important classes of words: Lyndon words, Sturmian words, etc.
No prerequisite is needed, apart from very basic concepts in discrete mathematics.
