Biography

Judith ter Schure's research interests lie in foundations of statistics as well as in applied work. She divides her time between her PhD research on Safe Meta-Analysis at CWI, freelance statistical consultancy (significanthelp.nl) and board membership (treasurer) of the Netherlands Society for Statistics and Operations Research (vvsor.nl). Her general motivation is the effect of statistics on society, which also inspires occasional writing for a wide audience – previously published by De Correspondent – and participation in popular science events like Nacht van de Wetenschap, ScienceBattle and Pint of Science.

Research

In my PhD research at CWI I develop statistical methods to summarize scientific studies that expand on one another, where dependencies arise between study series size, meta-analysis timing and individual study results. These methods should help scientists to prioritize research, interpret findings and design new studies – so efficiently accumulate scientific knowledge.

My research is motivated by the 'replicability crisis' in empirical science and the Reducing Research Waste movement in biomedical research (http://rewardalliance.net/).
