Biography

Dylan Huizing obtained his master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the TU Delft in 2017. His graduation project at TNO involved optimisation of intermodal freight transport plans under the COMET-PS consortium. Later in 2017, he started his PhD at CWI's department of Networks and Optimization, working with the Dutch railroad's department of Incident Response to optimally plan preventive maintenance and reduce incident response times.

Research

His research focuses on modelling intricate real-world optimisation problems, in such fields as freight logistics and railroad maintenance planning, often involving data-driven stochastic uncertainties, and solving or approximating these problems in tractable and applicable ways. Aside from this practical core, he holds a theoretical interest in reducing computation times in (mixed) integer linear programming.
