Biography

I am a postdoc in the Machine Learning group of CWI, I work on selective attention, reinforcement learning and spiking neural networks. I received my M.Sc. degree (cum laude) in biomedical engineering and my Ph.D. degree in health technologies from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2008 and 2012, respectively. I worked as a Ph.D. and postdoc at The BioRobotics Institute of The Scuola Superiore Sant Anna, Pisa, Italy.

Research

Davide Zambrano is interested in Computational Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence. He models networks of neurons that transmit binary information – spikes – among each other to solve computational problems, such as image classification tasks. Moreover, he develops models of continuous-time Reinforcement Learning to simulate how the brain learns to solve decision-making problems. He believes that Machine Learning can effectively draw inspiration from Neuroscience and, at the same time, give insight into the computational mechanisms of the brain.
