Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica has been classified the status of Public Benefit Organization (in Dutch "ANBI").
An organization can only be classified as ANBI, focusing for the general good for 90% or more. An ANBI is tax exempt for inheritance tax and gift tax on inheritances and gifts it receives for the public benefit. The effort by volunteers working for an ANBI can be seen as a contributing gift under specific circumstances. Gifts to an ANBI can be deductible income for income tax. Therefore, such gifts to CWI will fully contribute to its research.

The mission of CWI is to conduct pioneering research in mathematics and computer science, generating new knowledge in these fields and conveying it to trade and industry and society at large.

Governing board and remuneration policy:
The responsibility for daily management lies with CWI's general director. The governing board is the highest organ of the institute and carries the final responsibility. Members of the board receive at maximum a reimbursement for modest costs made. The salary levels of the general director and the other employees are set according to the framework of the Collective Labor Agreement.
