Total: 4.3 PM WP 2.1 (0.5 PM) Raphael has visited INA (Jean Carrive), Wed 20th of September, to work on a note "Analyzed Queries from INA's Archive Departement" available in the SVN repository under WP5.3. CWI has received the visit of Simon Schenk and Richard Arndt (from KU), from Sept 11th to Sept 22th, to work on the Multimedia Ontology and on the Named Context extension. WP 2.4 (0.5 PM) Preparation of the lecture for the 1st Summer School on Multimedia Semantics entitled "Providing Flexible Interfaces to Annotated Multimedia Repositories" WP 4.1 (0.5 PM) Contributed in shaping structure, ToC and content for the deliverable D4.1 (with KU), dedicated to describe the K-Space Multimedia Ontology. Collaboration with KU on the design of a multimedia ontology, based on the application of DOLCE patterns Ontology of Information Objects and Descriptions & Situations, as well as the MPEG-7 standard. The use of patterns allows the translation of numerous MPEG-7 description tools, rather than translating one by one. It also results in an ontology that is reusable, MPEG-7 compliant, extensible, modular and interoperable. WP 4.5 (0.3 PM) Worked towards the integration with QMUL Relevance Feedback system and provided feedback on its current status and performance. We have been in collaboration with QMUL in order to specifically define our contribution to the Relevance Feedback system under development. This will most likely be a module that could do some query expansion to a keyword based query based on some terminological resources à la WordNet. Contributed in shaping structure and ToC for the deliverable D4.5. WP 5.1 (0.7 PM) Chairing of the W3C Multimedia Semantics Incubator Group (MMSem XG), http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/mmsem/ Reviewing and maintaining MMSem XG use cases and documents, development of use cases (Tagging use case, News use case) showing some interoperability problems while using different multimedia formats for desribing the material. Preliminary work on a tagging ontology, in collaboration with KU. This ontology will be based on based an existing one (http://www.holygoat.co.uk/owl/redwood/0.1/tags/), and also build on insight gained through tagging applications (SemFS, SEA). WP 5.2 (0.6 PM) Contribution in Deliverable D5.2 - Metadata Store Specification: wrote chapter 4 on "Evaluation of Existing RDF Stores". Gave feedback on the specifications for components of the metadata store. WP 5.3 (0.5 PM) We have continued our work on the /facet prototype in the following areas: * introduced and implemented a new query algorithm with improved performance * added geographical visualization * improved interface and configuration options, in order to make /facet more accessible as an end-user tool * worked towards evaluation of /facet through a user study For more information and online demo: http://slashfacet.semanticweb.org/ Prepared and distributed the ToC for the Deliverable D5.3 WP 7.1 (0.2 PM) Design the front page of the SMaRT cluster web site. Provided feedback on the K-Space brochure and the TOC of the next newsletter. Printed K-Space poster for ISWC '06. WP 7.2 (0.1 PM) Final organization of the SAMT workshops and tutorials WP 7.3 (0.3 PM) Investigate the feasibility of having the Dutch Stichting as the basis for the future K-Space Scientific Forum. It will not be possible for CWI to host such a foundation. Propose to Thierry to investigate the AISBL status. AISBL (Association International Sans But Lucratif) registered in Belgium, as it is a Belgian legal structure is very interesting. We do not need to have Belgium partners to make such an organization.
