Description:

Leader of the group Intelligent Systems (IS): Han La PoutrĂ©.

The group focuses on adaptive decision making in multi-actor and uncertain environments. This comprises

  • computational intelligence (CI) techniques, like evolutionary algorithms, reinforcement learning, and hybrid heuristics; and
  • decentralized paradigms, like multi-agent systems, sensor networks, and non-cooperative (economic) games.

On the one hand, the group performs fundamental research on the underlying techniques: the development of advanced CI techniques (like Estimation-of-Distribution Algorithms, EDAs) and the design of adaptive agent strategies and simulation systems in strategic economic games (like negotiation, repeated auctions, or market-based planning) and optimization problems. On the other hand, the group develops generic and enriched models as well as adaptive solutions for target problems in key application areas that include smart energy systems, health care and transportation logistics, electronic markets, and smart ambient environments. In these areas, adaptive decision making in multi-actor and uncertain environments becomes increasingly important, both in science and in society. Especially, non-cooperative agent systems in combination with computational intelligence techniques gain importance. Our group addresses this via a combination of fundamental and applicable research. It collaborates with other academic institutions and companies in various externally funded projects.
