Signals and Images
Leader of the group Signals and Images (PNA4): Eric Pauwels
The aim of this research group is to combine expertises in different directions in signal and image analysis, in which mathematics and computer science play an essential role, thereby contributing to solutions of important problems for society in the coming years.
The research in this group is subdivided into three subgroups.
- The subgroup Image Understanding, Retrieval, and Indexing is concerned with research issues in the area of storage, indexing, and retrieval of visual information. In particular is directed towards the development of mathematical methodologies that enable the generation of content-based description of images.
- The subgroup Image Representation and Analysis deals with various multiresolution techniques is signal and image processing, such as wavelet analysis, mathematical morphology, and image scale-spaces, as well as with specific applications such as seismology, data fusion, and image filtering.
