Research
Paul M. de Zeeuw (1952) is a numerical analyst, involved in both scientific programming and research. He studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Leiden and obtained his PhD thesis from the University of Amsterdam. He authored and co-authored many papers on multigrid algorithms for the solution of partial differential equations. Two of the developed algorithms have been made available on the web, in the shape of Fortran computer codes (widely used). De Zeeuw has been participating in image processing projects, as a spin-off thereof two Matlab toolboxes have been built and made available on the web together with documentation. Further, he has been author at the Dutch Open University on the topic of numerical linear algebra, and was the secretary of the Dutch-Flemish Numerical Analysis Society (Werkgemeenschap Numerieke Wiskunde) from 1997 till 2002, including being editor of its newsletter "Het Nummer". He has acted as project reviewer for the USA National Science Foundation and the Israel Science foundation. Also he has been member of ADSARA (a customer council of SARA) and the workscouncil (OR) of CWI. Present focal points are applications of multi-resolution methods in image processing, image fusion based on partial differential equations, and online content-based image retrieval.
