Research

I examine market-based approaches to tackle the uncertainty for decentralised players in the domain of smart grids and energy systems. Currently, the uptake of intermittent generation and market liberalisation in electricity systems poses new challenges and opportunities. Agent-based markets in smart grids are an important approach to address them.

Three projects that I work on:

  • I investigate novel market models (auctions) which bundle the day-ahead power market with the reserve market. During a day-ahead phase, bids of power generators and consumers are used to clear (and co-optimise) both markets.
  • I study how retail contracts using a partially dynamic pricing regime affect flexible and non-flexible energy consumers.
  • I model a distributed and stochastic scheduling problem of electricity consumers sharing a limited cable connection and ask if there is a pricing strategy that is both allocatively efficient and fair.
  • As a contemporary observer, I am interested in the dynamic interoperability of our energy systems and how they change as we speak. I comment on the most interesting developments in a dedicated blog.
