ABSTRACTS:
1. Jens Rademacher (MAC3)
Title: "An invitation to nonlinear waves and coherent structures"
Abstract: Nonlinear waves and coherent structures frequently appear
in the nature and experiments and the mathematical methods for their
analysis have undergone a tremendous development in recent decades. I'll
showcase some selected examples and aspects of the theory.
2. Krzysztof Apt (PNA1)
Title: "Open Access vs Commercial Publishers"
Abstract: Triggered by a post of Tim Gowers on his blog a boycott of
Elsevier
was launched this January. So far 12763 researchers signed this
protest. This led to a renewed discussion concerning the pricing
policies of commercial publishers and brought the issue of open access
back in focus.
I shall try to shed some light on these matters providing some
historical background and suggesting some modest plan of action.
