Leader of the group Multiscale Modelling and Nonlinear Dynamics (MAC3):
Ute Ebert The group is unified by concepts of multiscale modeling and nonlinear dynamics (as indicated by the new theme name as of 2007). The analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations plays a central role; methods include numerical analysis and computational science as well as model reduction and analysis of coherent structures. Other problems concern stochastic particle models and their hybrid coupling to PDE's or the reduction of PDE fronts to moving boundaries and solution of boundary models. Main application areas within the group are electric discharges and plasma technology on the one hand, and cell biology on the other hand.
