Quantum Computing
Project name: Quantum Computing (INS4.1)
Research group: Algorithms and Complexity (INS4)
Coordinator of this project: Harry Buhrman.
Startdate: 1997-01-01
Enddate: 2100-01-01
Project INS4.1 studies algorithms and systems based on quantum mechanical principles. This work is exploratory research dealing with quantum algorithmics, quantum complexity, quantum communication and information theory, quantum cryptography, and simulation of quantum mechanical systems.
This work is part of a strong international effort aimed at finding new applications and limitations of quantum computing. Together with similar groups in Europe and the USA, CWI's work is aimed at studying the potential power of practical quantum computation.
It was supported internationally by the EU fifth framework projects QAIP, IST-1999-11234, and of which CWI (Buhrman) was the coordinating partner, and RESQ, IST-2001-37559, the NoE QUIPROCONE IST-1999-29064, and the ESF QiT Programme. It is supported nationally by NWO under Grant 612.015.001, and internationally by the EU sixth framework project Integrated Project Qubit Applications (QAP) funded by the IST directorate as Contract Number 015848.
We have organized the QIP 2001 conference.
