Project code: ISDF
Research group: Database Architectures and Information Access (INS1)
Project coordinator: Arno Siebes
The project addresses the problem of integrating classes in object-oriented database schemas. Solutions to this problem can be used for integration of different user views during conceptual design or schema integration in general, e.g. in interoperable database systems.
Traditional methods for schema integration focus on syntactical and structural aspects of schemas, but hardly on semantical aspects. Recently, a number of methods have been proposed to enrich schemas with semantical information or to use terminological knowledge bases.
The approach taken in the project is to use the semantics of methods to compare classes and use this as an extension to traditional methods to integrate object-oriented database schemas.
