Digital Media Warehouses
Project code: DMW
Research group: Database Architectures and Information Access (INS1)
Digital Media Warehouse is a warehouse, i.e. a vast and unrestricted collection, of digital media. Where digital media may range from human edited text to streams of sensor data, the management of a DMW brings many interesting (research) challenges:
- The development of a reference framework for feature detectors, which extract relevant feature values from different kinds of multi-media object.
- A database architecture for their storage.
- Query techniques to discover and cope with semi-structured data.
The DMW project has focussed on the added value from combining these pieces for support of content-based retrieval in an integrated and scalable solution, unlike the isolated solutions pursued in research projects within these separate domains.
