AMORE is a Research Training Network (proposal no RTN1-1999-00446, contract no HPRN-CT-1999-00104) funded by the Research Directorate-General of the European Commission. It has officially started on March 1st, 2000, and will last for four years, with internal link participating research groups from Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, and Switzerland.

The goal of AMORE is to develop models for railway optimization problems, and to propose and implement algorithms for solving them. Besides its core disciplines algorithms design and algorithms engineering, this is an interdisciplinary endeavour requiring a close cooperation between computer science, mathematics, and traffic engineering. It will benefit greatly from the existing contacts between the internal link participating research groups and their internal link industrial partners.
